Breitling

Breitling

Breitling is a Swiss watch brand from the Bernese Jura and founded by Léon Breitling in 1884 at Saint-Imier.

Breitling proposes top of the range models of watches with a chronometer certification. These are often used in the aeronautical sector, which has become the symbol of the watchmaker. The Breitling watches are luxury watches and some of them differ from the others by their wide dial (to improve the legibility) and their multiple functions (such as the chronograph, slide rule, or rotation bezel with pawls).

In accordance with the Swiss Made label (manufactured in Switzerland »), all the Breitling watches are made in Switzerland from components originating from the same country. The mechanisms coming from suppliers are modified by the Breitling Chronometry Workshops (formerly Kelek SA), in order to obtain a certification by the COSC.

In 2009, Breitling launched its own movement, the Calibre 801, and joined at the same time the very restricted circle of the manufactures; like Audemars Piguet, Jaeger Lecoultre, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin or Zenith.

These are mechanical or electronic Quartz watches: some models like the B-1 (1998-2006) include more sophisticated components such as a microprocessor.
